Hi! Welcome to my updated blog! I started blogging in 2009 and haven't stopped yet. This is the launch of my new and updated website, and I hope you visit often! Our Grade 4/5 Rebofiles blog is a fun place to be!
¡Hola y bienvenidos! I was born in El Salvador and moved to Canada when I was in Grade 5. I am proud of my Latin American heritage, and feel honoured to share my culture with my students. There is nothing better than showcasing songs and games in the classroom which I once sang and played as a child.
I graduated from the University of Calgary in 2003 with a Bachelor of Education, and also have a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lethbridge (1998) and a Master of Arts from Acadia University (1999). This year makes 15 years of teaching experience for me, and my 7th year teaching in the Spanish program at Coalbanks elementary! I am incredibly proud to be part of our Spanish team!
Aside from being a teacher I am also mother to Hendrix (8) and Gabi (17). I am a very proud, hands-on mom, and, along with my husband, Zakk, love being part of “everything” our kids do. I have many hobbies, but dancing, reading, and spending time with my family doing all sorts of activities, like bike riding (I absolutely LOVE my red cruiser!), playing games, eating ice cream, watching movies, and being active top my list. I am sure you will hear a lot of stories about my family this year!

I have found the best way to establish a positive and supportive learning environment is by creating a strong sense of community in the classroom. That’s where FISH comes in. FISH teaches us to be responsible for our own actions, to be respectful of ourselves and others, while encouraging us to embrace cooperation. The FISH Philosophy includes four simple principles:
Choose Your Attitude, Be There, Make Their Day, and Play! Through the FISH Philosophy we build stronger relationships within our classroom and school, and establish a positive learning environment. In such a classroom we feel supported, more willing to take risks and, therefore, better able to do our best learning. |
